Church of Nossa Senhora da Luz

Originally built in the 16th century, the church witnessed tumultuous times throughout the centuries. The image of Our Lady of Luz, one of its precious treasures, was stolen by the Moors who frequented the bay of Lagos, remaining captive until it was recovered and returned to the Church.

Unfortunately, in 1755, a devastating earthquake struck the region and caused significant damage to the church. Its walls suffered cracks, and part of the building needed to be rebuilt. However, the determination of the faithful and the local community prevailed, and the Church of Our Lady of Luz was meticulously reconstructed, preserving its beauty and spirituality.
