Lagos
Lagos is one of the most visited cities in the Algarve, due to the fact that is has chosen to develop its tourism with class and good taste.
It presents a large variety of bars, restaurants, hotels and astonishing beaches, being famous for its summer night life.
Lagos is a lovely coastal town in the Algarve that has kept its traditional Portuguese personality, but was still able to develop into an attractive holiday destination that welcomes thousands of visitors every year. Thus, this beautiful seaside town offers not only a modern range of tourist-friendly facilities but also the charm of Portuguese history and culture.
Lagos is framed by astonishing sandy beaches, including Meia Praia with its 4-kilometer stretch of golden sand, as well as some smaller bays, surrounded by spectacular cliffs. There are lots of great restaurants and bars and the town centre is usually alive with people, during the summertime.
Lagos was the base for the Portuguese 'voyages of the Discoveries' sponsored by Henry the Navigator in the 15th century. The old town of Lagos is, to this day, surrounded by the city walls that were constructed during the 16th century.
